Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis, is a disease of the bones which causes bones to become weak and brittle because of a decrease in bone mass and structural deterioration of the bone tissue. It is caused by weakening of the bones from low levels of calcium, phosphorus and other minerals. Osteoporosis also results from endocrine disorders or excessive use of drugs such as corticosteroids.
Osteoporosis has been estimated to lead to 1.3 million bone fractures a year in people over 45 years of age, which is represents 70 percent of all fractures occurring in this age group. Often thought of as a women’s disease, osteoporosis also affects a significant number of men. And compared with the number of women and men who have osteoporosis, many more have low bone density. Even children can get osteoporosis. However, you can take steps to maintain healthy bones throughout your life.
Symptoms of Osteoporosis:
• Back pain, which can be severe if you have a fractured or collapsed vertebrae
• Loss of height over time, with an accompanying stooped posture
• Fracture of the vertebrae, wrists, hips or other bones
To keep bones healthy:
Three factors are essential for keeping your bones healthy throughout your life:
• Regular exercise
• Adequate amounts of calcium
• Adequate amounts of vitamin D, which is essential for absorbing calcium

It’s a new knowledge to me that osteoporosis can even occur to children. Perhaps WHO should organize awareness toward osteoporosis in order that people at very young age may not suffer this disease. It’s a burden having such disease for older people, how much more if younger ones experience osteoporosis? It must be a terrible situation.
